As Green As Green Can Be

Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day… in my mind, the most green day of the year! My daughter’s school featured a St. Patrick’s theme for the start of their “Spirit Week” and, like the rest of the kids, she went all out: green shirt, blinky green ring, green  bandana headband, clover leggings, and green bead necklaces. She looked quite festive! I was also wearing green and joined several hundred others in sending out the fun St. Patrick’s Day Bitstrip greetings!

Of course there were St. Patrick’s Day celebrations around the world, but the one I find most fun (and for a great cause) is the St. Paddy’s Day 8K Run Green  with the Nog Run Club that benefits local charities. All runners must have kilts! How fun is that?! This year, they donated $500 to Calvin’s Paws, $3,000 to Wake & District Public Safety Pipes & Drums and over $13,000 to the MS Society… amazing!

Another incredible local event is the famous St. Baldrick’s day that raises funds for childhood cancer research. This year, it was sponsored by Napper Tandy’s Irish Pub and the Hibernian. 334 people shaved their heads and raised over $169,000!

Google Doodle featured a cool stained glass image with two hands holding a crowned heard. As explained on SearchEngineland, the Claddagh symbol used in the design represents love, friendship and loyalty. I thought it was absolutely gorgeous!

As you may know I’m “Blogging Green” this month! And St. Patrick’s Day is just about as green as green can be!
