Deck the halls, don gay apparel, troll the carol, and strike the harp to join the chorus…
Oh, yes, it is indeed the season to be jolly! We’ve been in a whirlwind of sparkling holiday activities for weeks. This season has been particularly fun and iced with a delicious layer of creativity and pure silliness!
We start with decking the halls of our office! Every year we have a door/cube/open space decorating contest and our team brought their game this year. We had merriness dripping from nearly every corner! Starting with a cozy, homey holiday theme, we moved to Charlie Brown’s Christmas for the Food Bank, to Carolina Hurricanes “CandyCANES-Alley”, over to the Peppermint Forest, then sliding into an old-fashioned Wisconsin Christmas, we moved right to the North Pole.
The fun didn’t end there… Just a few days later, we had an Ugly Christmas Party Sweater Contest and Holiday Potluck at our office. In case you didn’t know, unfashionably tacky Christmas sweaters are a high commodity this time of year. Most thrift stores are sold out of them promptly, if they even get them at all. Some local stores were selling them for up to $25.00 a piece! My last minute solution was to pin some green candy canes and yellow bell felt cutouts to a red sweater accented with silver bows and a little pink fluffy scarf. It worked, but our boss was the big winner with his too-short ladies Christmas sweater pinned with ornaments… hilarious! We enjoyed a feast of scrumptious holiday dishes and desserts.
We trolled the not-so-ancient yuletide carol in downtown Raleigh with a group of friends and participated in a costume contest which included categories such as Best Illumination, Best Use of Color, Most Festive, Best Couple, among others. We definitely created a scene with our colorful, blinky group and most likely ended up on the social networks of folks in our vicinity!
And although we didn’t strike a harp, per se, we definitely joined the chorus at the Raleigh Little Theater for their performance of The Santaland Diaries. What a fun evening to watch a former Macy’s Elf prance around a stage revealing all the silly, touching, and shocking stories that happen behind the glittering set of Santaland!
I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season and enjoying time with friends and family… Merry Christmas!
