Event Planning

Let’s Get Social!

I have a rich history of being involved in events in former professional lives but starting in 2010 I began planning events in conjunction with the launch of the Social Media Ambassadors Program.

Our Social Media Mixers brought our social friends together for evenings that included food, games, tours, and prizes. In 2012, these events were folded into a 24-hour new media telethon fundraiser, also known as an event on steroids. The Telethon includes all the elements of the mixers but we added strings of interviews, volunteer sessions, food truck rodeos, veggie mascot yoga, dunk tanks, silent auctions, cake decorating, food tastings, costume contests, roaming magicians and clowns, plinko, corn hole, and musical performances, all while managing a steady stream of donation tracking to meet a goal of raising $50,000 in 24 hours.

The first secret? Planning, planning, and more planning. The second secret: effective communication with your internal team, partners, and attendees.

In 2015, I did a few presentations about this monumental event. Here is one for the Triangle Marketing Club:

In addition to the Telethon, I organize several Social Media Ambassadors meetups every year. Some are informal gatherings at a local brewery while others are more formal meetings at our headquarters. I’m no stranger to managing a table at a local festival or putting together an educational session on the benefits of digital media for nonprofit organizations.
