I was leafing through the latest copy of “Our State: Downhome in North Carolina” when I came across an interesting volunteer opportunity. Through the NCDOT Rail Division, folks can participate in a Train Host program. After attending a one-day training session, volunteers ride the rails and help passengers, assist the crew and promote rail safety. They walk through the cars passing out travel brochures and kids activity pages, make sure the passengers are comfortable, make announcements and answer questions. Some volunteers have helped handicapped or visually impared travelers with baggage or navigating stop along the way.
I started thinking about other interesting volunteer opportunities
